h1399
First place:
h1399: Fits the theme, has some action, good composition. He's coming into the frame
(rather than out, which is a cardinal sin); not dead in the center, almost as big a
faux pas; follows the Rule of Thirds (whether on purpose or not, only the
photographer knows) not only with the placement of the boy but also with the line of
surf; and even has what used to be known as "dramatic tension" (dunno if that's
still in vogue or not) caused by the angle of two contrasting lines (the line of the
surf and the line of direction he is headed). Nice and clean, no distracting
background or horizon, just the subject and context.
I have rendered judgment. Now all howl and rant and rave about the injustice, it's
traditional in these sorts of things.
